Dear Mr Lane

Further to our recent discussion, I propose in my will to leave the sum of £3,500 (three thousand five hundred pounds) nett, for the purpose of establishing a Fund to be administered by The Cricket Society.
Out of this fund which can be called the Rex Wetherell Fund, I desire the Cricket Society through the Committee at the time to make the following awards:

(1) In each English First-Class Season an annual award of £25 to the best all-rounder using the following formula in arriving at its decision:

Batting Average

Bowling Average
+
Catches & Stumpings

1000
The qualification to be 1500 runs and 100 wickets; but in the event of (a) no candidate or (b) a tie at three decimal points, the Committee to use their discretion in the award. (2) The same formula and award to be applied to the best Public School all-rounder in representative matches with the qualification reduced to 500 runs and 25 wickets. (3) The same to be applied to the best all-rounder at Repton School (if they will accept it) but without the minimum qualifications. (4) The Welfare Fund of the Cricket Society to receive an annual sum of £50 plus any sums that may not be awarded annually under clauses 1, 2 and 3. In addition to the above I propose that a sum of not less than £250 be allocated to the Cricket Society for the purposes of having manufactured a suitable trophy to be presented annually under Clause 1 above, on the plinth on which the names of the winners are to be inscribed. This trophy to be regarded as the property of the Cricket Society but to be held by the winners for the year concerned. Reckoning interest rates at 4%, I calculate that a total sum of £3500 will be more than sufficient to cover the bequests. If these proposals are agreeable to the Committee and they will agree to carrying them out, kindly let me know so that I can instruct Mr AR Cronin (solicitor) of 14 Southampton Place WC1 to prepare the appropriate document(s). For your information, my age is now 61. Yours sincerely REX WETHERELL
